Chief Compliance Officer

Shannon Leonard serves as CVL’s chief compliance officer and director of the corporate compliance program. His responsibilities include developing team education programs that foster relationships with physicians and CVL management, auditing and monitoring internal controls, managing all issues submitted to the compliance office, and taking measures to ensure CVL staff always operate ethically and in full compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.

Most recently serving as chief compliance officer at the Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS), Shannon progressed through various roles of increasing responsibility at this leading practice. He joined CIS in 2011 as director of quality and hospital relations, then took on the role of director of hospital operations, managing cardiovascular labs in each CIS partner hospital and coordinating, implementing, and improving hospital-related and medical staff quality programs. He was also responsible for oversight of outcomes data management, analysis, and quality improvement strategies of the CIS partner-hospital co-management agreements. A registered nurse, he has held lead nursing positions including nurse manager for heart cath recovery, director of cardiology, and chief nursing officer at Advent Health in Orlando, Florida.

Shannon holds a Bachelor of Science in health care leadership from National Louis University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. He is certified as a Professional Healthcare Compliance Officer by the American Academy of Professionals and certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance by the Health Care Compliance Association. Shannon is also a past recipient of the CIS Mary Domangue Award, presented to the CIS team leader who most exemplifies the high standards of patient care, compassion, and dedication. This honor demonstrates that he carries out the mission, vision, and values that underpin the CVL organization.
